The day was bright and the wind was blowing – kind of - and Olivia asked – Momma can we please fly our kite?? I looked at the school’s flag and knew there was not enough wind to keep the kite up so I suggest a trip to the park instead. Can we fly the kite there? She asked excitedly. No there are too many trees. But we can probably fly it tomorrow. The next day as we left school Olivia pointed to the school’s flag and said – Look the flag is straight out. Does that mean we can fly the kite today? Well the wind was definitely blowing. In fact it was blowing some nice dark clouds into the area so I said we could fly the kite but we would have to try and fly it in the back yard. Which we did and we were not very successful and then the kite broke.
Saturday we woke up to clear blue skies, warm weather and calm winds. So off to the toy store we went to buy a new kite. We actually bought two kites. One $1.99 Spiderman kite for Jack and one $4.99 multi color kite for O. As we stood in the long line to buy our two items, Olivia and I sang the kite song to Jack who was upset about leaving the toy store without getting to browse. (you know the Kite Song – Let’s go fly a kite, up to the highest height. Let’s go fly a kite and send it soaring. Up through the … Well you get it and if you don’t then you need to watch Mary Poppins again.)
We then went over to school where Eric was helping to line the soccer field and we flew our kites.
The Spiderman kite turned out to be a great kite for the wind that we had. It was easy to send it soaring up to the heights and Jack could easily hold it while running around like a maniac. In fact the kids could get this kite up in the air with out any help from me. The upscale kite was a little more challenging. With a lot of running we could get it up in the air but it was much more susceptible to wind changes and took a lot of dive bombs. Which was exciting but not what we were try to achieve. But it was still fun to try and I think if we get a day with some stronger wind, this kite will work well. I wish I had some pictures for you. This would have been a great day to have Olivia use her camera but we have no pics. You will just have to take my word for it, that it was a great time full of lots of running, jumping, giggling and shouting. Oh and Jack climbing out the sunroof but that’s another story.

What a great post, and what a great mom you are! We've had No Luck with kites, but should try again. Earlier this week, when we were in Switzerland, I was remembering a windy day when one of the hills seemed covered with kite-string holders. There was a beautiful wind, and it was the perfect spot to fly a kite.
