Hockey Dad

As some of you know, Eric plays hockey in a C league at a local sportsplex. C league is for the guys and girls who love hockey but can barely skate. Ok they can skate ok but their skill level at playing hockey is... lacking. But they have a great time playing. There have been some odd things happening in the C league this year. For some reason a bunch of guys that are actually really good have infultrated the league and have dominated the games. This has made it less fun and there have been meetings to discuss how to correct this problem. This seems to have resulted in many of the teams trying to take Eric's team down since they have been the most vocal about the ringers. The games are always on the same night and the times are 7:45, 9:15 and 10:45. Yes PM. Needless to say these are all late times when our kids go to bed at 8:00 but this past Tuesday I took the kids to see Daddy's 7:45 game. There were like 10 people at the game. The three of us, two of Eric's friends and 5 others who were in and out of the arena. We had a great time. Ok Olivia spent most of the time pretending she was a "skate girl" and Jack spent the first two periods clinging to me. Oh and then there was the fight at the end of the game. Eric was not involved but basically some guy on Eric's team completely nailed a guy on the other team intentionally. It was true that the guy on the other team was annoying but... this is the C league. The game is suppose to be FUN not violent. The good thing is that even though the ref did not see the penalty, Eric's team acknowledge what their guy had done and he spent the remainder of the time in the penalty box. The best part of the game was getting Olivia and Jack to chant GO SHARKS GO SHARKS and clap for daddy. Eric has a shark on his uniform and his team sat in front of a sharks sign... so it does seem resonable that Sharks is the team name. When Eric came home I was telling him how the kids and I were chanting go SHARKS GO SHARKS and he replied "We're the Dragons" THE DRAGONS???!!!! And then I remembered that the Shark is the "mascot" of the sportsplex. That was why there was a sign with SHARKS on it and why Eric's jersey has a shark on it (it is the right color for him team so he was able to borrow it from the sportsplex) Ah, details details details. And Olivia will forever know them as the Sharks. She was just chanting it tonight when we were looking at the hockey pics. Maybe Eric could get them to change the team name.
The good part was that we were sitting behind the glass wall so our chanting was never heard by the team. (Of course maybe that is why the lost.)
